JE VOUDRAIS

Ilmari Tapiovaara is one of my favorite Finnish designers. I acquired two Domus chairs last autumn and my love affair with Tapiovaara is nowhere near finished. The lovely and timeless Pirkka stool is next up on my want list. Je t’aime beaucoup.

IMPRESSIVE! THIS is how it’s done. Pekka Haavisto is running for president in Finland and facing a tough battle with Sauli Niinistö, the other presidential candidate. It all will go down this Sunday, when the citizens of Finland will elect their new president. Above you’ll find one of the coolest ideas for a campaign in a while; a sea of people wearing Haavisto masks, taking over Helsinki’s central railway station, greeting commuters on their way to work on a sunny Friday morning.

And last but not least, if you are a Finnish citizen, and your eyes are moving over this little piece of text, I hope you scribble down a number 2 on your ballot. Finland needs to show the rest of the world how standing for something as simple as peace and equality can make a difference. The underdog prevails.

View and behold the beauty of guerilla marketing.

I’m alive and kicking.

THEY SAY you should update your blog every day. But, as a wise man once put it, life’s what happens while you’re busy making other plans. And life usually comes in between things that are more important, like (planning to or) updating your blog. Excuses, excuses. Let’s get our hands dirty.

As I am transitioning from being a student to actually graduating and becoming a full-time working class hero, I’ve started giving my future office some thought. ‘Cause, you know, things like that are more important than the job itself.

Below, you’ll find snapshots from Who What Wear’s office, pictures I repeatedly dig up for inspiration. THIS is how my future office is going to look like, if not better.

MY 10 LIVING ROOM STAPLES

I LOVE lists, so here we go.

1. A Vitra chair designed by Eames.

2. Letters, numbers & symbols.

3. Black & white.

4. Organizing books by color. Loving the metal lamps, too.

5. Two-in-one: light bulbs & mismatched chairs.

6. Big windows.

7. Fascinating details.

8. White, white, white.

9. Something vintage. By accident, this picture also includes elements from numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8. How dandy.

AND FINALLY,

10. Wooden floors…

…accessorized with a nice little mat.

Drooling on the keyboard much? All pics ruthlessly copied from this gorgeous blog.

LOVE, BERLIN

Berlin is one bubbly piece of land, packed with tons of graffiti and an atmosphere of laid-back anarchy.

July marked my eighth time in Berlin. I can’t get enough of the city.

Here are some pictures I took to make you wanna book tickets to Berlin, Germany as fast as your Internet connection allows you to.

B&W

SCANDINAVIAN MINIMALISM. Love it.

PAINTINGS

PHILIP TAAFFE’S first solo exhibition in London opened a couple of days back at the Gagosian Gallery. Go check it out, Londoners!

Drawing on the history of abstract painting, Taaffe employs images from archaeology, nature and architecture, often combining many forms and cultural references, to create his decorative and multi-layered works.

I think there is a shamanistic dimension to what I do in terms of summoning archaic forces, testing the boundaries of every day experience. -Philip

ARTEK

FINNISH ARTEK salutes the beauty of light as a part of its 75th anniversary by introducing “White”, a collection designed by Ville Kokkonen. As put by mister Kokkonen:

White brings a new perspective on how we perceive lighting. It is time for white light to take centre stage.
